The project is now picking up momentum. The Wildlife Observation Area Project is now picking up momentum. Representatives from the Community Garden - Dave Pearson (Kintyre Environmental Group), Donna Causer (Scottish Natural Heritage) and Volunteers visited Southend, Drumlemble, Castlehill and Dalintober Primary schools on Thursday the 27th January 2011. The visits were fantastic and the Community Garden Representatives were hughely impressed with the amount of work and the ideas the school children had come up with. Thank you to all the teachers and children involved for your time an effort. We look forward to welcoming you to the Community Garden over the coming weeks and putting your plans into action. Watch this space for updates on the project and photos of the work in progress. The project will create native habitats and feeding stations in four areas - Bug Search Area - designed by Dalintober Primary pupils, Butterfly Feeding Station - designed by Southend Primary pupils, Enclosed Feeding Station - designed by Drumlemble Primary pupils, Open Bird Feeding Station - designed by Castlehill Primary pupils. We will have cameras covering the feeding stations plus a bird box, all to be chanelled to a viewing "Hide" with equipment to provide split screen recording and replay facilities (enabling replays of hatching chicks, butterfly feeding etc). The hide will also house information and facilitate teaching sessions for all wishing to use it. All equipment will be powered by renewable energy (solar panels and leisure batteries with a back up generator as a precaution for our "west coast" weather.

The GRAB Trust kindly donated a selection of compost bins for our compost display area. They will be used to demonstrate different methods of composting such as hot composting and paper and grass clipping composting. The area is almost finished and will also demonstrate home-made organic plant feeds and be a useful educational resource. Would you like to know more? Would you like to help out? Do you have a couple of hours a week to spare? Why not come and speak to Helen and the Volunteers and find out how you can help.
